Photovoltaics

Each participant had a photovoltaic system. The solar power for the day is plotted below. In some cases, there is a dramatic drop in energy delivered by the PV system, which generally indicates that the batteries are fully charged.

DC Load

Two homes have a loaded DC circuit. These are monitored, and are included in the net energy calculation.

Everey home has an inverter and an AC circuit. Monitoring results are plotted below for each participant.

Thermocouples were routed from the refrigerator and freezer to a multi-channel logger. Note that the Fresno refrigerator thermocouple has been fixed. Scoring is determined from the following tabulations:

In the figures below, the refrigerator and freezer temperatures are plotted for each participant, along with room temperature from an additional thermocouple. Temperature data is hourly-averaged to smooth out events like opening the refrigerator door.

Voltage Present

A monitor was installed to detect AC voltage on the house outlets. If power is lost for more than an hour, there is a point penalty. On these state loggers, a “1” indicates there is a voltage, and a “0” indicates it has been lost.
